For the past 30 years, Berea Sandstone™ core samples have been widely recognized by the petroleum industry as the best stone for testing the efficiency of chemical surfactants Berea Sandstone™ is a sedimentary rock whose grains are predominantly sand-sized and are composed of quartz held together by silica. However, with low water saturations, and especially with oil-wet cores, the differences can be substantial. In order to better understand the effects of electrical contact resistances, electrical resistivity measurements were made on Berea sandstone cores which were saturated with petroleum naptha and a sodium chloride brine.
Berea sandstone has been used by the petroleum industry as a representative model siliciclastic rock for a number of years. However, only incomplete data has been reported in the literature regarding its petrographic, geochemical, and petrophysical properties. In particular knowledge of the mineral distribution along the pore walls is particularly scarce, despite the …Remarkably, Berea oil is being produced at depths of 2,200 ft or less and in an area in which the prospective source rocks—the overlying Mississippian Sunbury Shale and underlying Devonian Shale—are interpreted to be immature for oil production. Further downdip, the Berea appears to produce primarily gas in the oil window.

Links to resources outside the Kentucky Geological Survey will open in separate windows. We can cut both carbonate and sandstone cores and strive to provide the best possible value and pricing on all our core samples. We deliver the finest quality of core samples, sandstone cores and petroleum cores. We go the extra mile to ensure that our customers get what they need, where they need it, and when they need it.
1 Department of Botany and Microbiology and School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering, University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma 73019. PMID: 16346858 ... Penetration times and penetration rates for a motile Bacillus strain growing in nutrient-saturated Berea sandstone cores were determined. The rate of penetration was essentially ...Since 2011, production of sweet high gravity oil from the Upper Devonian Berea Sandstone in northeastern Kentucky has caused the region to become the leading oil producer in the state. Remarkably, Berea oil is being produced at depths of 2,200 ft or less and in an area in which the prospective source rocks—the overlying Mississippian Sunbury Shale and …

Table 2.13 shows results of laboratory measurements and numerical calculations.Kocurek Industries, Inc. / Hard Rock Division specializes in providing precision stone cutting for the oil and gas research industry. We are based in Caldwell, Texas and provide core samples that are used by major oil companies
These sandstone cores from the Berea formation are the ideal candidate for experimentation, because they adhere to specific permeability and quality requirements that closely match the environmental conditions that core …The depth of plugging by the in situ growth of either injected or indigenous microorganisms was investigated using Berea sandstone cores with pressure taps located along the length of the core. The continuous injection of aerobically prepared sucrose-mineral salts medium with 5% NaCl and 0.1% NaNO3 resulted in large permeability reductions (70–98%). The plugging was …

Excavated from quarries and cut to specific dimensions, these Berea SandstoneTM cores are sedimentary rocks containing sand sized (60 µm – 1 mm) grains, composed of silica-bonded quartz-sand. Their relatively (10-25%) high porosity and permeability (50 to 400 mD) easily classify them as reservoir rocks.A Berea sandstone core of 5.308 cm length and 3.874 cm diameter was used. The porosity was 19.01% and the nitrogen permeability was about 200 mD. This core plug was repeatedly used for tests at different temperatures and for gas and nitrogen. After each test, the core was cleaned by a Soxhlet extractor for the next test.

Researchers throughout the world have performed thousands of core flooding tests using the Berea Sandstone™ to characterize the oil production in other sandstone reservoirs during primary, secondary, and tertiary oil flooding.
Hydrocarbons have been produced from the Upper Devonian Berea Sandstone of northeastern Kentucky since the late 1870s (Nuttall, 2016).In the early 2010s, the completion of shallow horizontal oil wells with slickwater hydraulic fracturing in Greenup and Lawrence Counties began a renaissance of the Berea play and caused northeastern Kentucky to become the …Defined by the strength with which a petroleum fluid adheres to the surface of the reservoir rock formation, wettability is of a great interest for oil recovery. The present work presents the wettability alteration of light and heavy crudes in strongly wetted sandstone, by the means of contact angle measurement.
We selected core samples from four different rock types, namely Edwards Yellow Limestone, Lueders Limestone, Berea Sandstone, and Texas Cream Limestone. Finally, because the new workflow relies on fundamental rock‐physics principles, permeability and saturation‐dependent capillary pressure can be estimated from well logs with minimum ...Download scientific diagram | Determination of Darcy permeability for the Grey Berea sandstone core samples of different length using nitrogen as flowing gas. from publication: A …

The Upper Berea sandstone unit is the rock most frequently used in coreflood experiments. It is a finer-grained, well-sorted sandstone with closely spaced planar bedding. Both of these Berea sandstones are quarried in Amherst, Ohio by Cleveland Quarries ...
